Description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To safely shunt rail trucks

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT, RISK, QUALITY AND COMMUNITY

  • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)

Customers:

  • Monitor the furnace product analysis to comply to specification
  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction

BUSINESS PROCESSES

Shunting:

  • Supply relevant information to Operator (Locomotive):
  • Number or trucks coupled
  • All brake pipes are coupled
  • No objects on or near tracks which can cause derailment / damage
  • Level crossings – state of read traffic
  • Inspect contents of trucks visually and reported abnormalities
  • Route trucks by shunting over hand-points
  • Shunt over level crossings not protected by booms
  • Switch over facing points
  • Apply and release brakes
  • Couple and uncouple trucks
  • Secure detached trucks in a siding
  • Control the movement of stock by using approved hand signaling and/or by using radio communication systems
Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:             

  • Grade 12 / N3
  • 1 Year shunter experience
  • Driver’s License (Code B)
